Meet Jarrod

It all started with a stop sign.

Hi, I’m Jarrod Buchman and I am running for City Council here in Oldsmar. I grew up in Town ‘n’ Country, right down 580. After graduating high school, I attended Florida Tech, where I studied and became certified in aviation and flight instruction. In 2002, I was a founding member of a Jacksonville-based health center, and today I serve as a national business director in the health services industry.

My journey began with a traffic issue on my street. When I brought the case to the city, my concerns were ignored–until I decided to go door-to-door with a petition and earn signatures from my neighbors. Once I secured the stop sign we so badly needed, I realized that I could make a difference not just on my own street, but for all of Oldsmar. Since then, I’ve gained crucial experience in local government: as a student of the Janice Miller’s Citizens Academy for Oldsmar, an alternate on the City of Oldsmar Planning Board, and as a member of the Ordinance Review Committee. Now, I’m running to make Oldsmar more efficient, accessible, and prosperous for all of us.

The Issues

As the Grandson of a Purple Heart Recipient and a Graduate of an Air Force JROTC program, Jarrod understands the risk and sacrifice our service men and women make every day to protect the freedom we enjoy as Americans. He respects and honors their commitment to maintaining that freedom.

Additionally, as a member of the medical community, he strongly supports first responders (EMS, Fire, Police) in their efforts to help the local community.

Jarrod recognizes the importance of organizations, such as the Chamber of Commerce, and their integral role in civic life.   However, he will strive to ensure that the City Council maintains its autonomy, free from undue influence from any outside organization.

Jarrod is concerned about the impact increased density will have on our city.  Increased density means more traffic, over crowded schools and the potential for an increase in crime.  He joins the majority of Oldsmar residents in his desire to retain the “small town feel” that makes our city unique.

Oldsmar’s geographic location at the northern tip of Tampa Bay, makes our city an important player in maintaining the fragile estuary ecosystem that is Tampa Bay.  As a diver and fisherman, Jarrod is concerned about our local water resources and the impact humans may have on the environment.
